Below are the Waste Management arrangements as they currently stand at January 2017
General Rubbish Pick Up
Council conducts a domestic refuse collection service for the towns of Geranium, Lameroo, Parilla, Parrakie and Pinnaroo.
In January 2005 a robotic arm collection system was introduced, which requires all residents to use 240L MGB's.
These bins must be/have:-
Failure to comply with these requirements may result in the non pick up of the bin and a sticker placed on the lid with the fault identified.
Bins must be out by 7.00am on the designated pick up days.
THURSDAYS - Pinnaroo and Parilla
FRIDAYS - Lameroo, Parrakie and Geranium
NB:When Public Holidays occur on these days alternative arrangements may be made, please check the local newspaper, notice boards or phone the Council office for clarification.
|As part of its ongoing commitment to encourage recycling within the Community, Council has decided to collect a second recycle (yellow lid) bin from domestic premises free of charge|
Providing the following criteria is met:
The original Council issued recycle bin (with logo on front) remains the property of Council and must remain at the premises to which it was issued. Anybody changing residence or moving away must not take that original bin with them or risk replacement or recovery costs.
Pinnaroo and Parilla - 1st Tuesday of every month
Lameroo, Parilla and Parrakie - 2nd Tuesday of every month
All Rural Residents or others who do not receive the kerbside collection may continue to drop off recycling material free of charge at any of Councils Transfer Station.
WHAT CAN YOU PUT INTO A RECYCLING BIN?
Drink Containers and Food Cartons
Cartons (includes milk, custard, juice, ice cream, fruit boxes, long-life cartons)
(Rigid containers that hold their shape)
Drink bottle containers, Detergent, cleaning product and spray bottles, Shampoo, conditioner and cosmetic bottles, Yoghurt containers, chocolate & biscuit trays, ice cream and butter tubs.
Remove lids and rinse containers
Soft plastics like shopping bags and bread bags canbe recycled by delivering them to the transfer stations.
Paper and Cardboard
Newspapers, glossy magazines and junk mail,
Egg cartons, food boxes and packaging,
Envelopes, including those with plastic windows, Empty pizza boxes, rinsed takeaway coffee cups.
Place items in the bin loosely do not bundle together.
Metal Cans and Tins
Empty aerosol, food, drink and pet food
cans,fish and biscuit tins
NOTE: Rinse drink, food, metal and plastic containers: save water by using leftover dishwater.
Council has three Transfer Stations open for general waste and recycling services:
Transfer Stations are not open on Public Holidays.
All material must be separated or easily separated on site for deposit in designated areas:

cupboards, fence posts, building timber
Concrete, mattress, stereos,
computers, bricks, PVC pipe, TVs
PAPER & CARDBOARD
Shopping bags, styrene foam,
hay bale wrap, crate wrap
Fencing, iron, washing machines,
Car, truck, tractor
LOGS & STUMPS
Anything with diameter bigger
than 10 inches
There is no charge for recycling materials, commercial cardboard and film plastic (clean & sorted)
Due to Southern Mallee District Council's obligations to abide by the EPA regulations & our Transfer Station licensing conditions no listed waste (except scrap batteries) will be accepted. For further information on listed waste please contact Matthew Sherman.
